Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a form of controlled exercise that takes place in water. It is a beneficial exercise method that takes advantage of the therapeutic properties of warm water. Our highly trained hydrotherapists work with our patients to improve their fitness and overall function. Each animal’s case is treated individually, and the response to hydrotherapy can vary.

Hydrotherapy at Valley Animal Therapy

In some cases, simple movements or gentle massage in a warm water can provide relief from pain and inflammation. The buoyancy of the water supports the patient in a non-weight bearing or partially weight bearing environment, allowing for movements that may not be possible on land due to weakness or injury. .

For other dogs, more vigorous exercise is employed to improve range of motion, muscle tone, and strength. This type of hydrotherapy is often used after surgery or injury to aid in a speedier recovery. The buoyancy of the water reduces the impact on joints and provides a supportive environment for the dog to engage in exercise without putting excessive strain on injured or healing tissues.

In addition to its physical benefits, hydrotherapy can also help animals on restricted exercise or crate rest by reducing frustration. The water environment provides an outlet for energy and allows the dog to engage in exercise within the limitations of their recovery.

Overall, hydrotherapy can be a valuable tool in promoting fitness, function, and recovery. Our team here at Valley Animal Therapy work closely with each patient assessing their individual needs and tailor the sessions to their specific needs, and the therapeutic properties of warm water provide a unique environment for exercise and rehabilitation. We offer a state of the art Underwater Treadmill to ensure all cases are assessed and treated accordingly.
